Who are we?
Schools for the Future is a non-profit organization based in Sweden. It was founded in 2008 in order to facilitate the realization of a violence prevention project in El Salvador called Reading for the Future, which is being imple-mented since January 2010 and ongoing. The project is now run by a local team of dedicated co-workers.
The basic purpose of Schools for the Future is to promote a just and sustainable society through close co-operation with schools. It aims to empower people to influence their own future and the society around them. Schools for the Future supports democracy, human rights and a sustainable management of natural resources. The organization is politically and religiously independent.
Schools for the Future was founded by five students in Uppsala, Sweden. The founders have educational backgrounds in Development Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science and all share the same vision of how to support peoples’ aspirations for being able to act on their dreams and to create a future of their own choice.
This vision implies four basic principles working as guidelines for all the organization’s activities; inclusiveness, sustainability, integrity and transparency. For more information, please read the organization’s policy document. Read more about the founders and current Executive Committee members here.
